Happy couples express gratitude
Research shows that happy couples tend to openly and frequently express gratitude towards each other. Rather than just helping each other with household chores, actually verbalizing gratitude for the other person’s efforts bonds couples together even more.
Arlie Hochschild, a sociologist and professor at University of California, Berkeley, explained that an already stressful situation (divvying up and completing household chores) can be made worse when partners forget or fail to notice and thank one another.
Sometimes, partners don’t even realize how much work the other is doing around the house. In an article about this topic in Greater Good Magazine, the authors suggest, “… domestic partners may find it helpful to write down a list of their tasks and then switch lists for a week or month to better understand their partner’s contributions.”
